Means (30) for continuous waveband tuning of a laser (2) are disclosed, along with means (34) for relating such tuning to a reference wavelength, by maintaining any desired offset (35) from that reference wavelength. Multichannel fiber optics communications networks employing the above means (30) are disclosed, said networks being self organizing in terms of the wavelengths of their channels.
