A composite roll for use in hot rolling which is excellent in the resistance to surface roughening, wherein the outer layer of the roll is made from a steel comprising 1.5 to 2.4 wt% of carbon, 3 to 6 wt% of vanadium, 10 to 20 wt% of at least one element selected among chromium, molybdenum and tungsten, and optionally a seeding material comprising 0.05 to 0.20 wt% of aluminum and/or 0.02 to 0.10 wt% of titanium, and the balance of iron and inevitable impurities, and the texture of the outer layer comprises a metallic texture which has a particle grain diameter of 30 to 150 νm and is enclosed by a eutectic carbide crystallized out in the grain boundary or in which primary carbide crystals are further dispersed and crystallized out in the basic texture of the above crystal.
|
