A mitral heart valve replacement of flexible bioincorporable material comprises a D-shaped sewing ring (30) with a trapezium shaped opening (31), with an anterior cusp (33) hinged contiguously from the longest side (32), a posterior cusp (34) hinged contiguously from an opposite shorter parallel side, and lateral cusps (36A, 36B) hinged contiguously from the other two sides, together with chordae (37) of bioincorporable material extending from the cusps for connection to the papillary muscles by suturing thereto connecting portions (38) when the sewing ring is sutured to the atrio-ventricular junction, the aggregate area of the cusps being such that when the valve is closed edge portions (33X, 34X, 36X) of the cusps meet out of the plane of the sewing ring in the ventricular cavity of the patient heart.
