PRODUCTION OF ORGANIC CARBOXYLIC ACID ESTER

PURPOSE:To produce the title compound useful as a raw material for solvent and various kinds of spices extremely industrially and advantageously from an organic carboxylic acid and an alcohol or an olefin by using clay minerals containing a zirconium compound as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:In producing a carboxylic acid ester from an organic carboxylic acid and an alcohol or an olefin, clay minerals (especially preferably montmorillonite) containing a zirconium compound (e.g. zirconium oxide or zirconium hydroxide) are used as a catalyst and the reaction is carried out. By this method, a reactor is not corroded with the organic carboxylic acid ester and the organic carboxylic acid ester can be obtained at high esterification rate. The prepared organic carboxylic acid ester is readily recovered.
