PURPOSE:To roll down a width with a small width rolling load to reduce its installation cost by rolling down the width and forming dog bones projected in the direction of thickness at both ends of the slab width as soon as non-ferrous metallic slab is formed so that its width ends are reduced in thickness and rolling down the slab horizontally. CONSTITUTION:In a casting machine 3, the sectional shape of the molten non-ferrous metal 4 poured from a tundish 6 into a mold 8 through a core 7 is formed so that the middle part is uniform and both ends are thin in thickness. The metal is drawn by the bottom block 9 out of the mold 8 at a required speed and also the periphery is cooled by water sprays 10 and a water pool 11 to cast the non-ferrous metallic slab 5 thin in thickness at both ends. Then, it is sent from a chamfering machine 12 to a width press apparatus 14 through a soaking pit 13. The width of the slab is reduced by dies 15, the dog bones 5a are formed at both ends, then carried and rolled horizontally. In this way, the width can be rolled down with a small rolling load and the installation cost can be reduced. |
