PURPOSE:To make deposits hard to deposit on the surface of a fin and to prolong the duration of the cooling effect by forming the compsn. of the cooling fin into a one in which a specified amt. of gold is incorporated into silver as essential components. CONSTITUTION:The material of a cooling fin used for a glass fiber spinning apparatus is formed of an alloy constituted of, by weight, 50 to 98% silver and 2 to 50% gold. The alloy of silver and gold is hard to wet to molten glass, is hard to produce sulfides and has a small amt. of silver to be evaporated, so that, at the time of using it in the state of being attached under a high temp. nozzle, the smoothness of the surface is considered to be maintained for a long period. Thus, at the time of using this alloy for a fin, the volatile matters in glass are made hard to deposit on the surface of the fin.
