A method and system for cleaning an unweighted oil based drilling fluid containing suspended solid particles includes adding a controlled amount of water to the drilling fluid flowing in a suction line to a centrifugal separator. The addition of water to the fluid results in the particles becoming wet. The wet particles will stick together and separate from the drilling fluid under the influence of centrifugal force. |
