<p>PURPOSE:To shorten the time spent in a retrieval operation by preliminarily predicting the position of a target file mark with fuzzy inference. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with recording and reproducing means 1 to 8 which record and reproduce user data and file marks, a storage means 11 storing the retrieval information of the number of block file marks and block file mark numbers and corresponding data block numbers as a pair, a detecting means 16 which detects the target file mark, a speed control means (mechanism control part)7 which controls the speed of a tape, a speed setting means 14 which sets the tape speed to the speed control means, and a fuzzy inference means 13 which controls the speed of file mark retrieval. The position of the target file mark is preliminarily predicted with fuzzy inference. Thus, the speed can be reduced from the front of the target file mark, and the retrieval time is shortened without damaging the tape.</p> |
