PURPOSE:To readily obtain a suitable medical material, etc., by culturing a specific strain in the presence of diol and under a restriction of nitrogen or phosphorus. CONSTITUTION:A strain of Alcaligenes faecalis ATCC 8750, etc., having poly-3- hydroxy butylate (3HB) producibility is subjected to aerobic cultivation in a medium containing methanol urea, etc., at pH6-10 and at 20-40 deg.C to obtain a first culturing strain (A). Next, the strain A is added to a medium containing 1-100g/l diol (e.g. 1,8-octanediol) expressed by formula I (n is even number of 8-12) and about 1.5g/l glucose, etc., as necessary, as a second culturing medi um (B) and cultured for about 48hr to obtain a cultured substance (C). Then, the component C is filtered and centrifuged, thus resultant strain is extracted with chloroform, etc., to produce a polyester copolymer composed of 3-hydroxy butylate unit expressed by formula II and 4-hydroxy butylate unit expressed by formula III. |
