A synthetic lubricating fluid comprising at least one ester or its derivative represented by the formula wherein: n is an integer of 0 to 5 and m is an integer of 0 to 5, with the proviso that the sum of n + m is 1 to 10 inclusive; R1 is independently selected from hydrogen and C1 to C8 alkyl groups, and R2 is independently selected from hydrogen and C1 to C3 alkyl groups.
