A fine bubble diffuser system for use in the aeration of waste water, in which dome-shaped porous ceramic diffusers (7) are mounted at spaced-apart locations along each of a number of horizontal pipes in a network. Each pipe (1) has a rectangular cross-section, enabling the diffusers (7) to be mounted by means of a standard bolt (9) directly on the upper horizontal wall (3) of the pipe. A restrictor orifice (17) having a resilient flap valve (21) permits air-flow from the pipe into the cavity (19) underneath the diffuser (7), while preventing reverse flow of waste water into the pipe (1). The system has a simpler, cheaper and more robust structure than existing systems using a circular pipe, which require a complicated saddle and base-plate arrangement on which to mount each diffuser. The use of a rectangular pipe also enables the diffuser to be mounted closer to the base of the tank, thus improving aeration capacity. <IMAGE> |
