The invention relates to a device for storing and holding utensils such as knives or spatulas used by professionals in the food industry. According to the invention two components of a holding device are two adjacent turns (1 and 1') of a tensile coil spring (2) having at least two compressed adjoining turns; the spring (2) is held fixed at one of its ends to a first wall (3) by first holding means, whilst at its other end it is guided axially with respect to a second wall (3') by second holding means, such that it can elongate freely when putting the said utensils (4) away and such that it can easily be removed for the purpose of cleaning it. <IMAGE>
