PURPOSE:To obtain ceramics having improved strength and reduced thermal expansion by processing a ceramic material having a positive coefficient of thermal expansion and a ceramics material having a negative coefficient of thermal expansion into a composite material. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic material (e.g. eucryptite) having a negative coefficient of thermal expansion is wrapped in a ceramic material (e.g. partially stabilized zirconia) having a positive coefficient of thermal expansion and the ceramic material having a positive coefficient of thermal expansion is continued.
