PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon fiber reinforced carbon composite material having high final carbonization ratio and excellent mechanical characteristics by suspending a carbon fiber and carbon powder in an electrolyte solution obtained by dissolving a supporting electrolyte in an aqueous solution of thermosetting organic compound and generating arc between these suspended substance and cathode. CONSTITUTION:A carbon fiber and carbon powder are suspended in an electrolyte 25 obtained by dissolving a supporting electrolyte in an aqueous solution containing 1-20% of at least one or more kind of thermosetting organic compounds and arc is discharged between these suspended substance and cathode and the above-mentioned organic compound is polymerized and bonded on the surface of carbon fiber to form the coating layer and then the carbon fiber is taken out and formed and is subjected to heat treatment. Especially, furfuryl alcohol is used as the organic compound, because furfuryl alcohol has low viscosity and good impregnation into a fine part of carbon fiber. The supporting electrolyte includes ammonium sulfate or potassium chloride. |
