The automotive power unit comprises an IC engine with a pressure-charger (11), particularly of the spiral type, between it and the air intake. Protective devices (14, 16, 20, 21) are mounted before and/or after the pressure-charger to keep out foreign bodies. One of the protective devices can be immediately before the charger inlet, and another in a bypass pipe (17) returning air from the outlet to the inlet. This pipe has a valve (18) opening when charge air pressure exceeds a predetermined level. ADVANTAGE - Protection of vehicle engine and supercharger against damage to working parts.
