The use of a quinazoline compound of formula (I) in which R is a lower alkyl; phenyl; a phenyl substituted with a halogen, methoxy(s), or methanesulfonyl; furyl; styryl or a styryl substituted with a halogen, methoxy(s) or methylenedioxy or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in the preparation of a medicament for treating and preventing ischemic cardiac disease or arrhythmia is described.
