PURPOSE:To change an ink delivery amount to express a gradation per dot by a method wherein the waveform of a drive pulse to be applied to an electro thermal conversion body in one ink delivery action is divided, for example, into two pulses, and an OFF time between these two pulses is controlled. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 130 transmits drive data based on image data transmit ted from a scaner part 101 and a drive control signal to a head drive circuit 106A. The image data is also transmitted to a pulse OFF time control part 120. Gradation data contained in the image data have a linear relation with a pulse OFF time, therefore being PWM modulated and transmitted to a head drive circuit 106A as a pulse OFF time control signal. In the head drive circuit 106A, in accordance with the transmitted drive data, drive control signal, and pulse OFF time control signal, a drive pulse is generated. This is applied to an electrothermal conversion body of a recording head 106. In this manner, a recording with gradation can be conducted per dot formed by one delivery. |
