A guard system for an electric component placement machine which comprises an operating area 4, at least two independently movable component supply sections moveable between their associated, parking areas 6, 10 and the operating area. The guard system comprises (a) a safety system 24, 26, 24', 26', associated with the parking areas; (b) a guard 14 which controls access to the operating area of the machine; (c) means, to determine whether the component supply section is parked; (d) control means to disable power supply to the parked area when the safety system associated with the area has detected entry and to disable the operation of the machine when the guard system controlling access to the operating area or the safety system associated with an unparked supply section is penetrated, and (e) guards between each of the parking areas and the operating area, which allow the component supply sections to be moved from the parking areas to the operating area but which shields the parking area from the operating area when the associated component supply section is parked. <IMAGE> |
