PURPOSE:To form an image on a transfer medium having no dye accepting layer by a single printer by a method wherein a second thermal transfer part is provided before a thermal transfer part of a thermal printer, an accepting layer is transferred to a required part of the transfer medium by the second thermal transfer part, and a dye is transferred to the accepting layer. CONSTITUTION:A pair of heat rolls 9 and 10 as a second thermal transfer part are provided before a first thermal transfer part mainly composed of a thermal head 7 and a platen roll 8. Firstly, a dye accepting layer is transferred to a required part of a transfer medium by the second thermal transfer part, i.e. between the pair of rolls 9 and 10. Succeedingly, a required image is transferred and formed on the transferred accepting layer by the first thermal transfer part, i.e. the thermal head 7 and the platen roll 8. In this manner, an image can be formed by a single printer on a normally-used transfer medium on which a dye accepting layer has not been previously provided. |
