PURPOSE:To manufacture a sheet of uniform width dimension and increase the yield of a material by moving close to and away from stock guides to calender rolls and varying a clearance between the stock guides and the calender rolls. CONSTITUTION:Light is emitted out of an emitter 28 at an outlet 16 of a calender unit 13 and positions 29 and 30 on both ends of a sheet 15 finished by light accepting instruments 31 and 32 are input to find the width dimension of the sheet 15, and further the difference between the width of the sheet 15 and the sheet width 35 of the sheet 15 set in a setting instrument 34 is found out, basing on which a command 36 for lifting up and lowering down stock guides 20 is transmitted to an up and down driving device 26. As a result, when a space 8 between the stock guides 20 and calender rolls 2 and 3 get larger, a material 14' clogged in the space 8 can easily get out of the space 8, and the material 14 is not disturbed to get in between the calender rolls 2 and 3 in the vicinity of stock guides 20, 20 to enlarge the width dimension of the sheet 15, while when the clearance 8 between the stock guides 20 and the calender rolls 2 and 3 gets smaller, the width dimension of the sheet 15 gets smaller. |
