[Classes 18, 66, and 125 (iii).] In making paper bottles according to the method of the parent application, the wound body of the bottle is, prior to being inserted in one of the moulds of the rotary holder, operated on by ribbed rollers which form longitudinal corrugations over the entire length of the bottle. As shown in Fig. 2, the winding mandrel 15 and the conical folding mandrel 21 are provided with longitudinal corrugations and the body of the bottle is operated on by grooved rollers 51, 52, the rollers 52 being provided with hand-grips 53 and being pivotally mounted. The mouth of the bottle is reinforced by an adhesively-coated paper ring 55, Fig. 6, disposed between the inner and outer folds of the mouth and the edge of the ring may be rolled over in forming the mouth; the lower edge of the inner fold is formed with an inward roll 61 which gives resilience to the mouth of the bottle. The mouth of the bottle is furnished with a pair of grooves which accommodate two closure discs 58, 59, the disc 58 being the main closure and the disc 59 having an outwardly projecting flange by which it can be removed and reinserted. The base of the bottle is formed by a rigid member 60, Fig. 7, provided with ridges on its under surface into which the edges of the body 50 are hot pressed and adhesively secured. |
