PURPOSE:To prevent the thickness of the device from increasing by using an EL, which is covered with a liquid crystal panel composed of a couple of substrate across a sandwiched liquid crystal layer and a protection film, as a light source, and forming this protection film of the material of at least polarizing plates or a phase difference plate. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal panel 10 consists of the couple of substrates between which the liquid crystal layer is held there between and the electroluminescence (EL) 102, the protection film 102 of the EL, and polarizing plates 104 and 105 are provided; and the polarizing plate 104 are provided on the liquid crystal panel 101 and the polarizing plate 105 is provided on the EL 102 and serves as the protection film of the EL 102 is eliminated and the liquid crystal display device is therefore made thin; and the EL 102 and polarizing plates 104 are provided in contact with each other to eliminate the leakage of light. |
