PURPOSE:To ensure the start and restart of a metallic vapor discharge lamp by using heat reacting pieces at the start of the lamp to bring a start help conductor into contact with the outer wall of a light-emitting tube before a thermal switch is on. CONSTITUTION:Because a thermal switch 114 is on at the start of a lamp, a high voltage is applied to a nonlinear ceramics condensor (FEC)116 and a pulse is generated from the FEC 116 so that the lamp is lighted. Once the lamp is lighted, the thermal switch 114 is turned off by heat of a light-emitting tube 112 and separates from a power source 110 the FEC 116 constituting a starter. Heat reacting pieces 120a, 120b are also operated to separate a start helping conductor 118 from the outer wall of the light emitting tube 112. When the lamp is restarted the thermal switch 114 is turned on by temperature lowering of the light-emitting tube 112 and generates a pulse again. The heat reacting pieces 120a, 120b are set such that the start help conductor 118 makes contact with the light-emitting tube 112 before the thermal switch 114 is on. |
