The stationary upper assembly has a counter-bearing for support of the muff (23), and a lower assembly (1), movable relatively to the upper, contains a redn. ring (13). This ring consists of at least two part pieces (13a, 13b) retained in an accommodation (11) of a holding piece (2). At least one (13b) of the part pieces of the redn. ring is for variation of the cross-sectional surface of a through passage aperture transversally to its axis. To adjust the part piece (13b), a wedge gear is provided, incorporating a wedge piece (16) subject to the action of a positioning screw (17) in the holding piece (2). The gear acts with a wedge surface against a corresp. surface (15) on the part piece (13b). USE - To join two abutting reinforcement bars.
