<p>Water clarifying apparatus (10) has a cylindrical tank (14) where particulate contaminants suspended in raw water are separated using floatation techniques. A set of concentric, mutually spaced, conical plates (24) positioned in the floatation tank (14). The plates (24) rotate about the tank, preferably in unison with (i) a header (17) that distributes equal quantities of raw water to each annular zone in the tank defined by the conical plates and (ii) a scoop (22) for removing the contaminants which form a floated sludge layer. A screw conveyor (68) is located in a discharge pipe (22a) of the floated sludge scoop. An infrared sludge detection array (112) in a window (114) in the side wall of the tank (14) senses the sludge-water interface. Air dissolving tubes (32L, 32R) operating in parallel that have common feeds and discharges coupled through three way valves (82, 84, 86, 88) operated to pressurize a closed volume of water with high pressure air in one tube reloading and discharging the other tube.</p> |
