<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a filter material excellent in filterability of solid impurieties in molten metals and a reproducing effect by cleaning, in a filter material for molten metals obtd. by binding a ceramic aggregate with an inorganic binder, by forming the aggregate in a specified range from the inlet side of molten metals in the thickness direction of the filter material of a one having a specified shape index. CONSTITUTION:The filter material for an Al molten metal including solid impurities such as alumina and the pieces of refractories is manufactured by using ceramic particles such as Al2O3, SiC, Si3N4 and ZrO2 as an aggregate, kneading it with, e.g. a vitreous inorganic binder and an organic binder, compacting the mixture and executing firing at a high temp. In this case, the size distribution of the aggregate by the ceramic particles is regulated in such a manner that, in the range within 1/2 from the infiltrating side of molten Al in the thickness direction of the filter material, the particles having 100 to 130 shape index are contained by >=50wt.%. The filter material having a good initial impregnating rate of an Al molten metal and excellent in filterability at the time of filtering the Al molten metal as well as excellent in reproducibility by the removal of solid impurities captured in the filter material by the blowing of an N2 gas can be obtd.</p> |
