The Diesel engine has two inlet valves and one exhaust valve per cylinder. It is provided with direct fuel injection. The inlet valves (1, 2) occupy diametrically opposite positions. The air inlet ducts are arranged so that the incoming air forms a concentric vortex in the cylinder. - The air inlet ducts are arranged either parallel to each other or they are arranged so that their axes intersect at a point outside the cylinder centre-line.
