The hand-held device is for transfer of a film from a carrier foil (23) to a substrate. It has a housing of two relatively pivoted (3) sections (2a,b). One carries stationary pivot pins, which are coupled via a drive unit with a slipping clutch. This housing section contains a cassette (4), with a spool for a support foil with a film to be transferred, and a winding spool for the foil. The cassette has an applicator element (16, 17), and a holder, and during cassette insertion, a support/centring pin (11) on the housing section (2a) is inserted into the holder. The cassette also has a holder, to support it against turning around the pin.
