The commercial aircraft has luggage racks in which the passenger's hand luggage can be placed. The rack is divided into compartments with the access opening being closed by a roller shutter. The roller shutter is constructed from elastically flexible slats (16). Each end of each slat is attached to a toothed belt (11) which passes around guide pulleys (12) mounted on the side walls of the compartment. USE/ADVANTAGE - The shutter eliminates the risk of luggage falling from the racks when the aircraft encounters bad weather.
