PURPOSE:To obtain the title new low viscosity resin having improved heat resistance without exerting undesirable influence on other performances by glycidyl etherifying resol with epihalohydrin and specifically treating the formed epoxy resin. CONSTITUTION:First, resol is made to react with an epihalohydrin usually in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide and glycidyl etherified. Then, unreacted phenols contained in the raw material resol are separated from an epoxy resin as the reaction product, by distillation preferably under reduced pressure to give the objective resin. When a mixture of monocyclic phenol compound and a naphthalene ring phenol is used as a phenol of raw material for producing resol, a cured material of epoxy resin having excellent fluidity and heat resistance is preferably obtained. |
