The device protects a pipe conveyor from overloading. It has a mechanical sensor (9) swivel mounted above the conveyor (4) which is still open behind the loading station. When abutting the material (6) lying in the conveyor (4) the sensor is carried along in the conveyor direction and swivelled. A switch (11) for switching off the conveyor drive is operated by the swivel action. The rollers (13) are held pliable at least in part on the first rolling station (12) of the closed conveyor (4). The rollers are each mounted in a holder(16) which can swivel from a normal position in the conveyor direction and outwards. USE/ADVANTAGE - The conveyor drive is switched off in the event of overloading ensuring good mechanical action.
