A reciprocable plunger fuel injection pump has a plunger (12) having an enlarged head (29) at one end. A spring abutment (26) is secured to the head and is formed in two parts. The first part (32) has a flange for engagement by the plunger return spring (24) and a surface (33) engagable with the end of the plunger under the action of an engine driven cam. The second part (34) is in the form of a clip having an apertured base portion (35) engaged beneath the head of the plunger and arms (36) which extend at right angles to the base portion. Some of the arms (36) are turned inwardly to define a hook portion (37) which locate in a groove (38) formed in the first part of the spring abutment thereby securing the abutment to the plunger.
