<p>The article positioning control device for articles carried along a path comprises a first position detector upstream of a defined point of stopping of the articles on the path and means for the detection of the steps of movement of each article, these latter means being activated by this first detector. The device is characterised in that the first detector is an unreferenced distance from the stopping point and in that it also possesses a second position detector mounted a known referenced distance from said stopping point and means for preparing a parameter P for the stop control signal, in the course of an initialising cycle with one of the articles carried along the path, starting from the number of steps N of movement corresponding to the known referenced distance and from a number n of steps of movement counted between the detection of the article by first the one and then the other of the detectors.
