In a gastight alkaline accumulator the electrode of positive polarity is an electrode with an expanded metal matrix and the electrode of negative polarity is a rolled electrode having a metal-gauze reinforcement. Such an electrode combination is particularly suitable for constructing a nickel/hydrogen accumulator of the wrapped-cell type. In the production of the two electrode species, the respective active constituents, including binders and additives, are subjected to simple and easily controllable mixing processes and then applied to the respective carrier materials (suspension in an expanded metal matrix or rolling onto a woven metal gauze) on a continuous belt. This makes a high degree of automation of the accumulator manufacture possible.
