PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of separation of high-purity sesamins showing functions, e.g. related to biosynthesis of bioactive substances by carrying out steam distillation of sesame oil under a specified condition, obtaining a concentrated sesamin fraction, then further carrying out molecular distillation of the resultant fraction and collecting the objective sesamin fraction. CONSTITUTION:Sesame oil is initially subjected to steam distillation at an oil temperature (t) and a degree of vacuum (P) respectively satisfying the formula (0.5<=P<=20) to obtain a fraction containing 10-35wt.% sesamins. The resultant fraction is then reacted with a 1-4C alcohol preferably in the presence of an esterification catalyst to esterify and/or transesterify with the above-mentioned alcohol. Molecular distillation is then carried out to obtain the main fraction containing >=70wt.% sesamins. The obtained main fraction is finely separated and subsequently recrystallized using an organic solvent, thus obtaining the objective sesamins containing >=99wt.% sesamins. |
