PURPOSE:To obtain an electrolytic cell having simple membrane-cathode structural bodies of novel construction by forming the upper and lower parts of the shell surfaces of cathode chambers of plate-like rigid bodies, forming the surfaces opposite to anodes between these into net construction, and providing membranes in close contact with the plate-like rigid bodies and net construction surfaces by means of the membrane mounting and fixing means of the plate-like rigid bodies. CONSTITUTION:A vertical type aq. soln. electrolytic cell is provided with cathode chambers and anodes 9 as well as cation exchange membranes 5 between the cathode chambers and the anodes 9. The upper and lower parts of the shell surfaces of the cathode chambers of this electrolytic cell are formed of plate-like rigid bodies 2, 3, and the surfaces opposite to the anodes 9 between these are made into net construction 4; further, the ion exchange membranes 5 are provided to the bodies 2, 3 and the construction 4 in close contact therewith by means of nuts 8 via packings 6 and press plates 7. Therefore, both the upper and lower ends of the membranes 5 abut airtightly and closely against the bodies 2, 3, thereby providing perfect sealing between the bodies 2, 3 and the membranes 5. |
