The invention relates to an improvement of a hypsometer, with which one measures and computes the dimensions of circular cylindrical vertical objects, such as trees. In the sight of the hypsometer there is a horizontal angle device for determining the horizontal angular distance between the boundary surfaces of the object to be measured. A computing unit computes the diameter of the object at a location along its length at which the operator has aimed the instrument, on the basis of said angular distance and the distance to the object and the vertical angular position when aiming at this location, as obtained from the plumbline angle sensor of the hypsometer. |
