<p>PURPOSE:To prevent a delay in sheet feed by controlling the value of the sum of the time period from the initiation of the sheet feed by a second sheet feed means to the arrival of a sheet at the position of a sheet detecting means and the time period from the arrival of the sheet at the position of the sheet detecting means to the arrival of the sheet at the position of a first sheet feed means, always within a predetermined range.
