PURPOSE:To ensure the selection of a damping force, and enlarge the range of a damping force change by selecting the damping force, depending upon a relative rotational position between the piston rod of a strut suspension mechanism and the drive shaft of a damping force selector rod in the suspension system equipped with a damping force selector mechanism in the title. CONSTITUTION:The turning of a steering handle causes the rotation of a knuckle bracket 2, a strut outer casing 3, upper and lower spring bearing members 8a and 8b, and a compression coil spring 5. Consequently, a piston rod 4 rotates by the same degree as the strut outer casing 3. Torque thereby caused, however, is absorbed by a spring 18 and not transmitted to a strut support 6. On the other hand, the damping force selector rod drive shaft 11 of an actuator 10 maintains a stationary condition, due to the torsional rigidity of a support rubber 15, and the piston rod 4 relatively rotates, thereby performing the selection of an oil passage or the like within the piston rod 4 and generating a damping force. According to the aforesaid construction, the selection of the damping force can be ensured. |
