The system for monitoring the use of a tanker used for spraying the road surface with liquid bituminous material has an electronic processor unit which takes in signals representing the forward speed of the vehicle and the flow rate of the liquid being applied. A flowmeter (6) attached to one or more of the pipes supplying the spray bar gives a pulsed electronic output signal representing flow rate. A tachometer (10) attached to the vehicle gearbox indicates forward speed. The processor (7) calculates application rate and total amount applied in a given period and an LED or other display unit shows the desired quantity to the user.
