PURPOSE:To miniaturize a tool post device, by arranging compactly around the rotating center shaft of a rotating cutting tool post a planetary gear speed reducer and prime mover driving the rotating tool post with the shape of the supporting body supporting the rotating tool cutter post being deviced. CONSTITUTION:A rotating input is decelerated by a speed reducer 6 when the output shaft 3 of a servomotor 2 and a tool post driving input shaft 8 are rotated in the specific rotation number, an annular body and a rotating tool post 21 are integrally rotated, the servomotor 2 is stopped when the specific rotating tool T becomes coaxial with the spline shaft 26 of a tool driving mechanism 2, the rotating tool post 21 is locked by keeping a rotation stoppage position constant and indexed with its rotation according to the rotation tool T necessary for the succeeding stage. When a fluid pressure is then fed to a chamber 23c through a fluid pressure passage 30, a piston 28 pushes the spline shaft 26 out against a spring 29 to engage with the rotating tool T. Power is then transmitted to the tool driving mechanism 22 with a penetrated shaft 34 and tool driving shaft 24 being driven by a variable speed motor and the rotating tool T of the next stage engaged with the spline shaft 26 is driven with its rotation.
