The process uses a conical vertical reactor with a matching gas distributor. The gallium phosphate is reduced by H2, to produce a homogeneous phosphide. The phosphate is spread in a thin layer over a large area, and the H2 is directed perpendicular to it, to break the resulting crust of phosphide. The melt facilitates drawing of single crystals by the Czochralski technique.
