The subject of the invention is a wiper for a dipstick used for checking the level of lubricant in the sump of motor vehicle engines. The originality of the invention resides in the arrangement of two bodies of spongy material, which are inert to hydrocarbons, in a casing which is open at its top, into which it is sufficient to introduce the dipstick soiled with oil, and pull it towards oneself in order for it to be clean. The second originality resides in the fact that the dipstick wiper which forms the subject of the present invention has been fitted to the closure cap of the sump for filling the engines with lubricant, and in that channels have been made for draining the oil resulting from the wiping towards the sump from which it has come. <IMAGE>
