The invention relates to a device offering two possibilities of use, depending on the requirements, . by lifting the small control knob (2), the cistern releases approximately half the available volume of water, . by lifting the large control knob (3), the cistern is emptied completely. It consists essentially of a movable fixture and its attachment mechanism. The movable fixture, which slides freely along the central tube (13), consists of a conical ferrule (6), a cylindrical guide (7), an open-worked cylindrical ferrule (8), an annular float (9), a conical closure cylinder (10) and a corrugated circular flexible seal (11). The securing mechanism is formed by two hooks (12) pivoting about their respective axis (23) and by two weights (18) by means of which the hooks (12) protrude, in the rest position, outside (13). By lifting (2), a cam (19) retracts the hooks (12) inside (13), thereby releasing the movable fixture which closes the orifices (15) and stops the discharge flow. <IMAGE>
