The invention relates to a shuttle (1) which can be pulled by means of a chain (5) looped between a driving pinion (6), driven in rotation by a gear motor unit (7), located on the load taking station (4) side, and a driven pinion (8), located on the roller conveyor (3) side. The shuttle includes a subframe (9) which includes wheels, and a support structure (19) which rests on crank pins (handles) (30, 32) which are off-centre on discs (26, 28) integral with shafts which also carry pinions over which the chain (5) passes. Stops permit blocking of the pinions during travel and retractable stops (52, 53) located at each end of the branch passage, control, at the ends of the travel, the rotation of the pinions and the discs (26, 28) permitting at one end the rise of the support structure (19) and at the other end its descent. <IMAGE>
