PURPOSE:To obtain a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor having a strong and small-sized construction, by a method wherein a plurality of cavities are formed in sections inside a unitary prestressed concrete pressure vessel and pebble bed cores and others are held therein, while the pebble bed cores and primary cooling system apparatuses are connected together through high- temperature gas ducts laid inside the pressure vessel. CONSTITUTION:Inside a prestressed concrete pressure vessel 1, a plurality of cavities 6 for cores formed in sections dispersedly in the circumferential direction, a cavity 7 for a primary cooling system apparatus formed in the central part, and tunnel ducts 8 connecting each of the cavities 6 with the cavity 7 radially, are provided. In each cavity 6, one primary cooling system apparatus comprising a gas circulator 3 and a vapor generator 4 corresponding to a pebbel bed core 2 one to one is held, and the core 2 and the vapor generator 4 are connected together through a high-temperature gas duct 9 laid in the duct 8. The core 2 held in each cavity 6 is constructed with main elements on design set to be equal to or lower than the ones of a module type pebble bed reactor.
