An arrangement for automatic measurement of workpiece dia. contains a sensing rod (1) axially displaced when its sensing head (3) contacts the workpiece (5) and two or pref. three signal transducers. The first activated transducer causes a reduction in the workpiece transport speed. The second transducer, at a minimal distance from the first, switches off the transport mechanism. The third transducer, if provided, acts as a safety device. The pin is mounted without play on two plate springs. USE/ADVANTAGE - Enables highly accurate length measurements with minimal number of relatively moving parts and without use of conventional roller and slide bearings.
