A fire retardant for a polyolefin consists of a phosphide contg. nitrogen prepd. by heating (at 100-250 deg.C) the mixt. of 100 wt. portions of condensation phosphorylated cpd. of formula (I) and 10-100 wt. portions of a triazine of formula (II). In (I), n is 20 and A1, A2 and A3 are either H, NH4 or CONH2 (A1, A2 and A3 cannot be the same). In (II), R1 and R2 indicate H or CH2OH and R3 indicates NH2, NH-CH2OH or a phenyl gp.
