The practice shot (10) which is sub calibre and carries a cage (12) to assist ejection when fired.- The cage is made from segments which are released after firing has a strap (10) (20) round the segments, which is broken by the force of firing. Two segments (23,25) are separated by a dividing line (14) e enclosed by the strap. On the underside of the strap are zones (22) which produce easy breakage, e.g. by permitting cracking. These zones are formed by projections such as lugs or pins which fit into corresponding shaped recesses near the ends of the segments. In alternative designs, different types of pin anchorages, keys, and metal strip components are used.
