Dual-sensor mixt. ratio controller for IC engine - uses stored values of adaptive actualisation factor with reference to oxygen content downstream from catalytic converter

Fuel is injected (4) into the air inlet (3) downstream from the throttle (8) which is adjusted by a control unit (21) responsive to signals from an intake flowmeter (7) and detectors of crankshaft angular position (10), coolant temp. (11), knock (13), road speed (14) and O2 content (12A,12B) in the exhaust pipe (5) on either side of a three-way catalytic converter (6). The mixt. is adjusted by feedback modified in accordance with instantaneous values of engine speed and load, except in a specified range. ADVANTAGE - Control is effected without great increase in storage requirements and without degradation of catalytic converter performance.
